Toronto Branding Agency Job Posting:

Junior/Intermediate Level Ruby on Rails Developer

Distility is looking for a Junior or Intermediate Ruby on Rails Developer.

If you are the right person for the job, then you will:

  • have a strong commitment to engineering excellence;
  • take pride in both the end product and also the code that runs it;
  • be self-motivated and meticulous in creating beautiful and easy-to-use interfaces;
  • be a strong collaborator and understand the importance of integrating your work into our project management system;
  • work well independently but be open to direction and oversight by our CTO.

Your engagement will initially be focused on the front-end and back-end implementations, bug-fixing and refinement.  Ultimately, your role could expand to encompass the entire product life cycle, including: product design, deployment, and ongoing performance and scalability tuning. You won’t be doing the heavy engineering lifting – the job involves more controller and view work rather than general system architecture and hacking the core of  the system.

For the past two years (or more), you’ve been:

  • Delivering web applications with Ruby on Rails, Django, Spring, Struts or other MVC frameworks
  • Enlightened by Javascript frameworks such as jQuery, Node.js, Backbone.js, Ext.js, etc.
  • Incredibly frustrated by browser inconsistencies in HTML5 and CSS3 support
  • Bored with relational databases and started tinkering with document databases like MongoDB and CouchDB
  • Wanting to get your hands dirty on touch-enabled apps for tablets
  • Using Test-Driven Development to guide your software designs and catch bugs and regressions
  • Pursuing software engineering as a craft outside of your day job

We’re okay if you can’t put a check-mark on everything above – as long as you are smart enough to learn really quickly – or at least fast enough that you can make useful contributions to the project we’re working on.

The hours required and remuneration will depend on the relevant experience, background and abilities of the successful candidate, and, depending on the candidate and their ability to work independently, we can determine if the engagement will be as an independent contractor (consultant) or variable hour employment basis. It is anticipated that initially the time commitment will be @16-24 hours per week.

If interested, please email careers@distility.com, with a very short summary of why we should engage you, include your CV or LinkedIn profile.
